In the past, I’ve really struggled to keep my office space and desk clean. Whether I’m leaving empty coffee cups on my desk for two weeks too long or forgetting to throw old paper lists away, I continue to have issues maintaining a clean work environment. And my guess is that if you’re reading this blog, you’ve been there too.

The truth is, keeping your office space and desk clean can be a pretty daunting task. However, there are things you can do to help you maintain a clean and organized office environment. Let’s take a closer look at what those are.

What You Can do to Keep Your Office Space and Desk Clean

1. Incorporate Cleaning Into Your Daily Routine

One thing you can do to keep your office space and desk clean is incorporating cleaning your office space and desk into a daily routine. For example, every evening when you end work, you could make it a habit to straighten up your desk, wipe down surfaces, and organize papers and documents. Incorporating cleaning your office space and desk into a daily routine will not only make the task less daunting, but will also help you maintain a clean environment.

2. Declutter Regularly

Another thing you can do to keep your office space and desk clean is decluttering regularly. This can include going through your drawers and filing cabinets and getting rid of anything that you no longer need or use. Decluttering regularly will ensure that you’re freeing up space and clearing your environment of what’s no longer needed. Additionally, it will help you find things more easily because there will naturally be less stuff to sort through.

3. Use Different Organizational Mechanisms

Another thing you can do to keep your office space and desk clean is using different organizational mechanisms. This can include using desk organizers and trays, as well as labeling folders and documents. Using organizational mechanisms like so will assist you in knowing where things are, and will help in making your work environment look more professional.

4. Clean Regularly

An additional thing you can do to keep your office space and desk clean is cleaning regularly. This can include dusting, wiping down surfaces, vacuuming, or sweeping. To help you clean regularly, try creating a cleaning calendar in which you do these tasks once every week or two. This will not only help you maintain a clean work environment, but it will also improve the air quality in your office.

5. Be Mindful of Your Behavior

Last but not least, to help you keep your office space and desk clean, you can be mindful of your own behavior while working. This means being mindful of what you bring into the office, such as food or drinks, and being mindful of how you use your space holistically. Being mindful of your behavior will help you keep your office space and desk clean because you’ll naturally be more aware of what you’re doing with the space cleanliness-wise. In turn, this conscientiousness should help you better-maintain a clean work environment.

Conclusion

No matter how daunting of a task it is, by incorporating cleaning into your daily routine, decluttering regularly, using different organizational mechanisms, cleaning regularly, and being mindful of your behavior, you should be able to help yourself maintain a clean and organized office environment.
